Community Mosaic with the HELMS Foundation Saturday, April 20, 2–3 p.m. at the McKinley Birthplace Home Artists of all ages and skill levels are invited to paint clay tiles that will be used to make a mosaic mural in the famous Dave Grohl Alley. HELMS Foundation staff will guide participants through the activity. All supplies will be provided. Registration is required at 330-652-1704, ext. 3. Cider and Donut Tasting with White House Fruit Farm Friday, April 19, 10 a.m.–11 a.m. at the McKinley Birthplace Home Sample White House Fruit Farm’s delicious cider while learning about how apple cider is made. Ohio Deaf History Month: Celebrating Deaf History and Culture Wednesday, April 3, 6–7:30 p.m. at the McKinley Birthplace Home Join us as Mackenzie Goranitis from Easterseals discusses Deaf history and culture. Learn some basic American Sign Language and discover the resources and supportive services that Easterseals provides to the Deaf community. Registration is required at 330-652-1704, ext. 3. Easter Celebration Saturday, March 16, 2–3 p.m. at the Library and Memorial Grounds Children ages 4–9 are welcome to join us for an egg hunt on the grounds of the National McKinley Birthplace Memorial (weather permitting). Kids and kids at heart can take pictures with the Easter Bunny and meet therapy bunnies from F5RS Rabbit Rescue & Sanctuary. St. Patrick’s Day Lucky Shamrock Party Saturday, March 9, 2–3 p.m. at the McKinley Birthplace Home Attendees of all ages are welcome to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and learn more about the history behind the holiday while also decorating a lucky wooden or paper shamrock. Festive refreshments will be served. All supplies will be provided. Registration is required at 330-652-1704, ext. 3. ChessClub Tuesdays and Saturdays, 9 a.m.–12 p.m. at the Library Are you pawn-dering where you can practice and improve your chess game? Meet up with other players for a friendly round (or more) of this ancient strategy game. Use the library’s chess set or bring your own. Lessons will not be provided. SpiceClub March (Rosemary), April (Aleppo Pepper), May (Basil) Each month, pick up a “take-and-make" kit featuring a different herb, spice, or spice blend. Each kit will contain information, history, fun facts, two recipes, and a premeasured packet of the selected spice with enough to make the two recipes. The kits will be available at the reference desk. Kits are free, but supplies are limited. One kit per household.

Tea Traditions Wednesday, March 6, 1:30–3:30 p.m. at the McKinley Birthplace Home Join us for a fascinating look at British and American tea customs and history. British restaurateur Alfred Farrand will teach us about high and afternoon tea ceremonies and tea on the American continent, with special focus on the Boston Tea Party. Total Eclipse of the Sun Wednesday, March 13, 2–3 p.m. at the McKinley Birthplace Home This presentation explains the total solar eclipse that will take place on April 8, 2024. The physics and geometry of an eclipse will be explained, including the relative motion of the Moon, Earth, and Sun. Also covered will be the continued importance of eclipses to the scientific community, as well as the importance of this particular eclipse. Safe watching sources of information will be provided. Presented by NASA Senior Aerospace Engineer Craig H. Williams. Attendees will receive a free pair of eclipse viewing glasses. Registration is required at 330-652-1704, ext. 3. Communication with Cadence Care Network Saturday, April 6, 2–3 p.m. at the McKinley Birthplace Home Join us to learn about communication with Ms. Barb, LISW with Cadence Care Network and adjunct professor at YSU. Ms. Barb will explain what communication is and discuss the different forms of communication, argument skills, and the history of written communication. Planning for Retirement: Social Security Benefits Wednesday, April 10, 2–3 p.m. at the McKinley Birthplace Home Social Security is a part of everyone's life and is a major source of income for most people of retirement age. If you have questions about Social Security, this program is for you! Join us as Robert Fenn, Public Affairs Specialist with the Social Security Administration, explains when to start thinking about Social Security, how to know when you’re eligible for benefits, and more.
